What is Homestay?

Homestay is a program where international students live with local Australian families while studying abroad, offering a rich cultural exchange experience. At Burpengary State Secondary College, this program is a key part of the international student experience, helping students improve their English conversational skills, learn about Australian culture, and build meaningful, long-term friendships in a safe and supportive home environment.

Types of students

  • ISP (International Student Program): Long-term (1 term to 1 year)
  • Study Tour Students: Short-term (3 nights to 3 weeks)

What do students receive?

  • A private bedroom with study facilities (for ISP students)
  • Three meals per day, plus snacks
  • Transport to and from school and related activities
  • The chance to integrate with Australian families and local students at the school

Host Families

  • Host families are carefully selected and supported by a Homestay Coordinator
  • All family members over 18 must hold a current, active Blue Card
  • Hosts receive a payment to cover additional living costs
